As a leftish political type, I find a lot of things to like about Bernie Sanders. The United States ought to have a public healthcare option, and he’ll push one through. American kids ought not to go get themselves killed for the benefit of wealthy sheikhs and princes in foreign oil-rich countries, and he’ll put a stop to this. Bernie has a history of being pro first amendment, pro second amendment, and pro fourth amendment, and I like all those things.
Unfortunately, Bernie’s campaign is making a lot of very serious mistakes. I’d like to talk about some of them here, partly because I am probably the only democrat many of my readers ever get exposed to, and partly out of frustration that nobody else is putting these particular pieces together and talking about them. There is still time for some of these mistakes to be fixed, but time is short, and I have no faith that anyone in his campaign is thoughtful enough to self-criticize their behavior so far into a turnaround victory. Time will tell.
Failure to Appeal to The Masses
Bernie did not have a bad time in the 2020 Iowa caucuses, but he had a tie with an establishment pseudorepublican named Pete Buttigieg. If you don’t know who Buttigieg is, just imagine Hillary Clinton, changed from a bitter old bulldyke into a younger gay man. Buttigieg has famously come out against a health-care plan, is pro-war, and will do nothing to keep large corporations from continuing to censor the internet. Bernie could have (and should have) won, and his failure to appeal to the broad masses of Iowans is a major reason why he didn’t.
In 2016, the dems in Iowa had a turnout of 171,000 caucus goers. In 2020, the dems in Iowa had a turnout of 176,000. That’s not much of an improvement. Bear in mind that in 2008, when Barack Obama was stomping the shit out of Hillary Clinton, the turnout in Iowa was 240,000 people.
What got people out for Barack Obama was his crossover appeal. Obama appeared before republican and independent groups, and asked for the chance to be their man in Washington D.C..
It should be noted that once elected, Obama kept his promises about gun control (Trump has already banned more firearms than Obama has, and he also engineered the “red flag” rules). He even allowed conservative scumbags like (Mormon) Mitt Romney to scuttle his attempt at expanding public healthcare.
Has Bernie appealed to anyone outside his base? Well, outside of a couple of appearances on Fox News, which a lot of non-democrats enjoy watching, he hasn’t done much. In fact, Bernie staffers have proven themselves to be insufferable faggots, who jerk themselves off in the press about putting their political opponents in gulags. Candidate Sanders has yet to make any denunciations of these morons, so he comes across as either approving of their lunacy, or too weak to police his own ranks. I don’t fault any independent types for failing to cross over for him. As a democrat, that makes me want to stay home, too.
Failure to Exterminate Pocahontas
Bernie has another problem in Elizabeth Warren, a phony populist with a long track-record of lies and corruption. For the republicans in my audience who don’t know her, she’s basically the democrat version of Ted Cruz, 2016. She’s a complete hack who somehow maintains an “outsider” appearance, despite being in the pocket of every corporate interest that has so far managed to grab a piece of the democratic party. Bernie should have taken the dumb bitch to wounded knee at least a dozen times, but he has instead coddled her. She returned the favor in Iowa by siphoning off a large chunk of his support.
Compare Bernie’s camp (the populist democrats) with the intraparty competition (the corporate democrats) and one does not see the same problems. Buttigeig (the democrat version of Marco “foam party” Rubio, 2016) is the corporate democrat frontrunner, but he came in so far ahead of his own peers, Biden and Klobuchar, that they weren’t able to siphon off delegates from him. Joe Biden sounds like he’s having a stroke, every time he opens his stupid mouth, so this explains his poor performance.
As of the time I’m writing this, the New Hampshire primary has yet to be counted, and already I see Bernie staffers beginning to talk about Tulsi Gabbard “stealing” the primary from their man. As a Tulsi fan, I can tell you that most of her voters wouldn’t have even shown up to the primary if she hadn’t appeared. Tulsi plays the Obama game, appealing to independents and republicans for support. In contrast, I don’t see any of Bernie’s people going after the fake featherhead who actually is spoiling his chances.
I was in my freshman year of college, attending and living in Vermont during the Nov 1988 election, the year when Bernie, the then “openly and very proud socialist” mayor of Burlington (Vermont’s largest city, just about 30K back then) won his first congressional race and seat as an “independent”
Bernie was “allowed” to caucus with Democrats. He voted with them 99% of the time in the 1990’s. He would claim his independent status…….hmmmm, yes….at re-election time.
His socialist bravado was just that. Bravado. In Burlington as mayor, he kept a moderate stance. AS a congressman, he kept a lock-step-vote with the Democrats on anything and everything. As a Senator, he votes Democrat.
The press, and the “Bernie Bros” give him the pass on how he is going to pay for everything, and Bernie Bros who are clueless about our system of government are convinced the presidential role is some sort of “elected dictator” who can do as he pleases. Free college. Yup. Free healthcare. Yup. Everyone will have a Union to help them. The minimum wage will be a middle-class “living wage” and debt forgiveness for any or all student loans….oh he supports that too. Rent control? Yes. Price fixing. Yes. Vastly increases Social Security payments, he’s gonna do this! Free medicine. It will all be covered without any expense to the person in question. That includes OTC stuff at the local drug store.
“Tax the rich” is their thing. The funny thing is, many of these Bernie Bros come from upper middle class white college educated places. What they mean is “tax the rich who are against / didn’t vote for us”
Bernie to his credit has never been involved in kerfluffles, interns……bizarre situations, nor has he been involved with kickbacks, money, payoffs or getting “rich” off his position. In those regards, I believe he is just good ol fashioned “Jimmy Carter honest” and that is something that I say with no sarcasm or irony or an attitude of “well, he just has never been caught”
His model, and spoken progressive politics were put into practice at my undergrad “Green Mountain College” and my undergrad with a tradition of 185 years was ruined by this. His wife was president of Burlington College of Brulington, and she ran that into he ground, it too closed. Her reputation…..yes, like all good socialists…unscathed
Bernie if indeed elected will cause more room for failure than success. His promises, his off the cuff “we have a plan” for every situation will have a sobering reality………and if he fails, the rich, the republicans, the Russians, the banks, someone will be blamed for failure, and not his policies.
Being in the tech field, a large number of people I interact with on a daily basis are Democrat, perhaps a large majority. The largest group of Republicans I know are in my ethnic group, but I don’t interact with them daily. (Interestingly, at least one tweet on my feed covered the issues you described this post.)
I suspect that many persons in the manosphere vote Republican, with a few Libertarians scattered in there. Exposure to Bernie’s ideas is likely to reduce his appeal, so he’d benefit more from hoodwinking naive voters.
I’ve always written it off as stubborn intellectual inconsistency that you are a something, something leftist/Democrat/Marxist. As Jason notes…
…despite the inevitable and demonstrable failures of socialist policies, it never causes intellectual impact. Now, to be fair, it’s not like Republicans have a ton to offer. I like the analogy that Democrat is like atheism and Republican is like “Churchian Christianity”. All are wrong, but at least the latter is closer to the truth.
You couldn’t pay me to vote for Bernie Sanders, despite the fact that he was tied as my top candidate when I took a “who should I vote for President” quiz in 2016.
@lastmod
For better or worse, a large number of voters would rather have .Donald Trump dishonest. over .Jimmy Carter honest.. Perhaps they care about honesty and personal integrity, but more important are the actual regulations, policies, laws, and appointments. The best case scenario of President Sanders is that he is dishonest and fails to follow through on his most vocal policy promises.
Most vocal “trump all-the-way” supporters would be the first to scream if grandma’s social security payments were cut…even by a mere 2%, or if there was no “cost of living increase” for the new year for her.
This president voted for Clinton both times in the 1990’s. Supports no-fault-divorce, has an aloof position on abortion, claims he is making “America Great Again” and debt still swelling, few or not cuts made, the border wall that Mexico ISN’T paying for, and an arms deal to Saudi Arabia who isn’t our friend, and never has been are all hailed by his chest-beating supporters as “genius”
No better than Bernie Bros actually. Not surprised that Christians are supporting him, even though he has been divorced several times, his son (Trump Jr) leaves his wife and then immediately beds-up Kimberly Guilfoyle who was a former lingere model and thus has the expertise to be Belinda Q Housewife…and she was married to Gavin Newsom, who is now governor of California. Trump appointed a ‘conservative’ supreme court justice. He’s about as conservative as Nelson Rockefellar was. Trump embodies exactly the hypocritical nature of most claiming Christians today.
Trump doesn’t hate abortion. His policies actually support it. It’s like Democrats giving lip service to Gays and going to their events but could give really one iota about them, just vote Democrat no matter what!
Trump is a terrible president, and spare me the economy……..Trump is not responsible for the economy. So should Clinton be givin high marks because of the economy in the 1990’s? Al Gore did invent the Internet right?
Has Trump fixed marriage? Manhood? No. He’s hardly some specimin of fit masculinity.
So Christians so vote the lesser of two evils…….as we all should right?
What should happen? All politicians. All of them. In the statehouses and federal government should have everything made to the pre-1947 days.
No healthcare. No pension. No perks. No “special bank” for themselves to use as an expense account. No pay. Just a base stipend. No owning property in Washington DC….you LIVE in the area and among the people YOU represent. You are reinbursed for travel expenses to Washington DC. You may have a paid staff of sorts. You are reinbursed for your meals.
It’s not profession. A dynasty, or an “employment option” to be a politician. It’s a civic duty. This would cut up a lot of the nonsense we see today. Make it a duty / civic duty…not a career.
If I sound disillusioned, I have very reason to be. Many like myself are tired of being told to “bear the brunt” or “shut up and work / be a man / quit whining” and at the same time should vote for a person because they are the lesser of two evils?
I no longer vote in state elections in California because its a one-party state now. In primaries the two highest vote getters make the November ballot, so mostly we have two Democrats, or two Progressives, or to Liberals. One party….just like ol Soviet times! And this is for all local and state races…..if this was the cases in South Carolina or Texas….you know the Democrats would be screaming in the streets “NOT FAIR!!!!”
Anyway……
Disillusioned? Well, I pretty much agree with what you wrote in your last two comments, except for this:
Trump’s judicial appointments will be his greatest legacy. Maybe it won’t be great in absolute terms, but in relative terms (vs. who Clinton or Sanders would appoint) it is a major victory. If I had decided to vote for Trump, this would have been the reason. I know many Christians voted for Trump.for this reason.as the best of two evils and will continue to do so as long as there is no better alternative. The only alternative is not to vote or to “not vote” by voting for unelectable candidates.
FWIW, just like I don’t think Boxer is the devil for voting Democrat, I don’t think Christians are the devil for voting for Trump. Voting decisions are complex and nuanced.
“What got people out for Barack Obama was his crossover appeal. Obama appeared before republican and independent groups, and asked for the chance to be their man in Washington D.C..”
AKA the “I voted for a black man to prove I’m not a racist” voting bloc. Calling myself a conservative is like calling myself a Christian: it’s a correct statement but I don’t care to be associated with the group, who in turn don’t care to associate with me. A lot of Democrats are looking at their own “liberals” and ending up the same way. Soviet-style Communism with death camps for dissidents wasn’t the better future they signed up to promote.
It’s globalist vs nationalist now, not Dem vs Rep.
“Tulsi plays the Obama game, appealing to independents and republicans for support.”
She is the sanest one in the pack, although she doesn’t seem to be getting any “first woman in the White House” support that Hillary supposedly tapped into during her run in 2016. Maybe it was only meant to be a “first Clinton Machine woman in the White House” moment?
What are so great about his judicial appointments? None are prosecuting anyone…oh, yeah they may be personally opposed to abortion but that isn’t going to overturn Roe V Wade……..in fact, that case was a moot point in 1974 because well over 40 of the states by 1969 had already legalized abortion on their own. New York State citizens voted on it in 1967 in fact, and it was already legal in NYC in 1965.
None of these judicial appointments will overturn gay marriage, sure they may have their own opinions about it but they will not overturn it……….in fact the courts (circuit and appellete and family) answer to now the powerful lobbies, agencies and associations instead of the Law. In California, voters of the Golden State voted to reform the whole auto insurance racket in 1989……ballot initiative. Won by a landslide. We were all told we were getting “refunds” shortly……well, a few judges under the order of their masters (insurance companies) threw it out, called it unconsititutional, and then rates went up even more to put us voters in line, to teach us a lesson. Politicians in both parties stayed QUIET on the issue and we had a Republican Governor back then (Pete Wilson).
We were never explained what was “unconsitutional” about it.
Agencies, departments, and committees of subcommittees, upon subcommittee have more power than any “judiciary” appointment. Its all show Derek……Ruth Bader Ginsberg was hailed “all evil” when Clinton brought her to the bench, and she really hasn’t done or said anything of importance. Liberals were convinced Bush I. appointment of David Souter was going to force blacks on the plantation, backstreet abortions everywhere, and reverse any and every law for civil rights…….all the guy ever did on the bench was nothing, and he had dinner with his mom every Sunday night. Hardly a legacy.
We Americans need to fear the IRS, the FBI, HUD, the DEA, and the ever more and more powerful AMA (american medical association) than any judiciary appointment. You should have more fear about your local traffic court judge, or family court judge than anything Ginsberg, or what’s his name that Trump appointed
I will be voting Libertarian again, even if they put the guy with the French last name like they did in 2004 (mon dieu!)
It’s not a throw away vote…its a stance, and I will not and have not been accountable to the debt, the mess, the division, the cronyism, the debt, the spending, the outright breaking of the law by both corrupt parties, nor will be blamed. It’s you folks who do this “lesser of two evils” thing that will in the end cause the collapse, and you all will have brought it upon yourselves.
That phenomenon doesn’t exist, except in the minds of goony white conservatives. If that phenomenon did exist, it would have worked for Ben Carson, Jesse Jackson, and hundreds of other neeeeegroes that you dislike equally.
Barack Obama won the office because he crossed over and appealed to people outside his party. Of course it didn’t hurt that he was running against a kook CONservative named John McCain, whose campaign promise was starting a nuclear war with Russia. Even so, white independents and republicans loved him before McCain got the nomination.
Calling yourself a conservative is a meaningless statement. Conservatives don’t have a single consistent point, other than (perhaps) a tendency to give transnational corporations free money at the expense of working individuals. They haven’t even conserved the girls’ restroom from the trannies who are now free to wander in and out, watching your daughter take a leak.
Boxer
Her rulings are public record and they record the important damage she has done and tried to do.
Yes it is. This is one reason that I don’t participate. I understand the reasoning behind why people voted for Trump. I didn’t say I agreed, rather, I agree with you:
It doesn’t make sense that Christians would compromise on what is right or wrong in the name of politics. Embracing a utilitarian ethic is not Christian.
I know. I was “joking”. Not voting is also a stance.
What important Supreme Court cases have come up since she graced us with her appearance on the bench?
The only one I can think of is that one about ObamaCare (ACA),which made it a law for everyone to have health insurance……and 30 million Americans are evidently ignoring. I was on ObamaCare, yeah….I got insurance and couldn’t find ONE doctor that would take any of the plans offered under it in “Covered California” but I was going to be penalized by the IRS (which gave that “trusted” organization more power) for not having coverage. Medical costs skyrocketed further, and my deductable was only 2,000.00 per year, my scooter insurance btw deductable is 250.00. Shows where the priorities are.
Obama is hailed as brilliant for this, and it solved nothing. Just like Bush II. Medical drug plans, the cost of drugs went even higher.
The Supreme Court has ruled on nothing of any importance really in a long time….all we get Derek every time for a nominee is the “posturing” about who they are. “He’s a rapist” and “She’s a witch” and “He’ll make abortion illegal” or “He will defend Reagan / Bush I. / Clinton / Bush II. / Obama / Trump becoming a dictator and suspending the Constitution”
Fear mongering. They really have no role anymore, and if they do they have loyalty to the party that put them in, the lobbyists, the law and legal associations they belong to, the agencies (like the FED, the IRS, HUD, DEA, SSA, DOD, ENCON……..and countless others).
The third branch of government really serves no purpose now…only ceremonial….they even step on property rights in that enminant domanin case. Those words are mentioned in the constitution! The whole supreme court, the ones appointed by Reagan and Clinton, and Bush…..all voted in favor of the government taking your private property in the name of progress. They are only used to muscle up what the president wants or thinks he is going to get.
These folks would take our guns and outlaw the bible if they could get away with it, and under the right threatpoint conditions, they would. All of them. Including the guy Trump put on who evidently is a real alpha….no, he was the guy back in the 1980’s who would have sex on the first date, flush my head in a toilet between classes, and make fun of your daughter in front of people. That is who we have. Principles? He has none. Christians, and the supposed “right” think he is god incarnate because he doesn’t like abortion. Wow. How brave! Make him caesar.
EDIT: Username modified to comply with comment policy. Please do not post personally identifiable information on this blog. Thanks!
This is why I don’t like politics. It makes otherwise reasonable people say stupid things like this.
Who started the Title IX debacle? A Democrat. Who reversed those policy changes? A Republican. Who voted in favor of Gavin Grimm? A Democrat appointee. But wait, you say, what about U.S. District Court Judge Timothy J. Corrigan?!?! Checkmate!!
Now, let’s be clear here: being a Republican means compromising with Democrats who will not compromise. It means surrendering. It means cucking, which is why conservatives are called cuckservatives. What you see as…
…is incorrect. Conservatives have many strong and passionate stances, but they will eventually compromise on every single one of them in order to take a strong stance on something else. It is trivial to see how this collapses in the face of opponents who do not reciprocate. The result follows logically. As Moldbug has graphically stated:
A simplified political viewpoint is that leftists actively harming us and conservatives do little to stop it.actually encouraging it to occur through compromise. There exists no political force that can stop this. All attempts to engage politics (including bureaucracy and activism) on its own terms will ultimately just move it further down the path.
You can see a list of important cases here, including those since her appointment in 1993. But it’s not merely the cases she ruled on, but also the ones that the Court refused to rule on.
For all this talk about how useless the judiciary is, are you aware that the courts have, by and large, ruled against schools utilizing Title IX to deny male students due process? The courts are quietly doing what they are supposed to be doing in defense of the (falsely) accused. There are many important cases at all levels and the impact of their precedents goes way beyond those individual cases. Most of the impact is hidden. The lives that are quietly destroyed or saved do not make headlines.
You seem to be arguing some indefinable standard of importance. That’s so vague, I can’t produce any more meaningful arguments against it. I see no planted goalposts. You’re entitled to your opinion. I think it’s nuts, but what else can I say?
No, most conservatives…….wait, all of them are afraid of being smeared as “racist” or some other “ist” word. That smear is like “communist” of the early 1950’s and it’s almost impossible to wash off in todays interconnected social media. Title IX has not been reversed. In fact its still growing. In fact many conservative dads support “their daughter” playing sports with the “boys” because you know, he’s alpha and he’s a good dad.
If Title IX has been reversed, California is not following it, and the Feds are doing NOTHING about it. In fact, the Santa Rosa football team here is using Title IX right now to get girls to “be on the football team”
All over the news up here
conservatives today are like our man-o-sphere. All talk, all the answers…….zero action.
Conservatives like Barry Goldwater are dead and gone. They are not coming back either. They are more afraid of being blacklisted from their jobs, careers, social circles and friends.
“The courts are quietly doing what they are supposed to be doing in defense of the (falsely) accused”
That’s really VAGUE Derek….and let me guess, Trump changed it all!
I didn’t say it was.
I refer to the (unconstitutional) executive policies instituted during the Obama administration that Trump revoked/reversed (see here). The Obama-era policies gave the whole thing the huge momentum it needed to become a cultural force. But like all conservative vs. liberal issues, you can’t actually stop it, let alone reverse it.
I also refer to the Title IX abuse being combated in the courts for young men being denied due process rights after being accused of rape. Mind you, they are winning in court, but like all conservative vs liberal issues, they can’t actually reverse the damage. Their lives are still irrevocably tarnished.
Of course it is: “Cthulhu may swim slowly. But he only swims left.”
This is off-topic, but physiologically speaking there is no problem with boys and girls playing sports together at young ages. I have 2 girls and 3 boys and they all play with each other (and their mother!). There is nothing wrong with boys and girls playing with each other. The issue isn’t boys and girls playing together, it’s denying the physiological differences and imagining that they don’t exist. Whether a dad is ‘alpha’ or ‘beta’ is irrelevant.
Once the kids reach teenage years, the physiological differences become much more pronounced and girls can no longer meaningfully compete with boys. A peak 15-year-old boy can more-or-less outclass any female of any age. This is why 15-year-old boys beat women’s national soccer teams.
Courts! A laugh. So me riding a skateboard in San Jose in 1998, and it was “against the law” in the urban renewal zone of the city, and when the police confiscated it by knocking me off it and I had to pay 75.00 to get it out of hock and then spend a night in jail for “mouthing off” to the cop the took it, and the judge stated “court fees $325.00”.
Yes, exactly why more and more people are taking the correct stance. The judiciary isn’t about the law. It’s about money. It;s about big words, and court cases and numbers, and the like……….clear as day, something we can all understand. No. It’s for the elite. It’s for control……..and any of the cases Bader Ginsberg or Souter, or Thomas ruled on or didn’t rule on have zero effect or impact in my life or our lives. None of the states, and plenty of cities don’t follow the laws they rule on anyways
No, and this is not the first time I’ve mentioned this in the comment threads on this site. It’s quiet because most people don’t know it is happening, not because it is hidden or vague.
A while back, colleges and universities got this crazy idea that we should #BelieveAllWomen and that if a female accused a male of rape (*cough* #MeToo *cough*), the student must be expelled without due process, even if.no, especially if.there was contrary evidence. The schools claimed to be following Title IX guidelines.
Naturally, due to losing scholarships, degrees, and their reputations the male students frequently sued. To date I believe the number of male students that have won against the schools is over 100. It’s been a legal and financial bloodbath for the schools who have been forced to settle or lose in court. I don’t track the individual cases, but I do follow criminal defense lawyer Scott Greenfield who posts updates on his Twitter feed once in a while.
Trump reversed a POLICY………he’s a Christian! He stands for real men, and conservative values!!!!! Debt? Arms deals? Grabbing women by the pussy? MORE DEBT? Spending bills? Name calling? Bombing random places and countries?
He reversed a policy that effect .000000000000000000000000000000000% the population!!! He’s amazing!
Oh…..did he use the courts? No? Well…….why didn’t he if he has so much trust in them by his apointees????
He’s useless. An asshole and sadly he’ll win because of a moribund and really unelectable other side
Derek…women are STILL being believed. Get your delusion over this man done with.
You are fortunate that you don’t perceive any personal effects from those rulings, but you are projecting. Not all of us have the luxury of avoiding legal avenues.
Well, I already agree that bureaucracy and the utilitarian ethic are killing us and that Cthulhu only swims left. I also know that the judiciary branch has always been the most impotent of the branches. But it is still important, especially as it increasingly incorporates the legislative branch’s functions (e.g. Obergefell v. Hodges).
You can’t cite a single thing I said that is delusional. I’ve been very clear that conservative policies can only slow, but never stop, liberal policies.
“That phenomenon doesn.t exist, except in the minds of goony white conservatives. If that phenomenon did exist, it would have worked for Ben Carson, Jesse Jackson, and hundreds of other neeeeegroes that you dislike equally.”
When it happens in conservative circles, they boost the black candidate early in the selection process and get the virtue-signaling out of their system before settling down to more Establishment choices. Obama was the first time they were forced to run against a Person Of Color, as I recall, and they simply had no defenses.
Honestly, Mitt Romney in 2012 was not even trying to win.
“You are fortunate that you don.t perceive any personal effects from those rulings, but you are projecting. Not all of us have the luxury of avoiding legal avenues.”
I am saying that even if you are aware of personal effects from useless supreme court rulings……what are you going to do about it? Hire a fleet of “republican lawyers” spend all your free time studying law? Fight in court? Spend weeks, months….and in some cases years to “push back”?
Oh, and do you have a few million up front….for all the ‘difficult’ work the lawyers have to do? Usually used to buy shirts at Brooks Brothers and go out to lunch and buy his new home……There plenty of men right now in California who are suffering from paternity fraud (a few thousand cases). The courts say “no, he is not the father” and yet……he is still having wages garnished, being put in jail, smeared on social media as a deadbeat dad, alienated………..the law says “he’s clear” but the AGENCIES, the DEPARTMENTS, the ASSOCIATIONS ignore laws and rulings. Including the local police when some department says “go throw his ass in jail for being a deadbeat dad” (even though the court records show HE IS NOT THE FATHER, NOR LEGAL GUARDIAN)
Metoo and believeall women is not slowing down on college campuses. Several cases right now in New England. Tons more that don’t even make the news and are handled by drum head student judicial courts / boards on campus (VERY common on the private college university level).
This pushback and effects from “Trumps rulings” have zero effect. They are feel good measures and have little or no impact, and good luck trying to find states, cities that uphold these reversal of policies UNLESSS accused has a few million to pay a lawyer
The judicial has little trust from most sensible people, and why should it? They are all about money, legislating from the bench (totally illegal on a constitutional standpoint) and clogging a system. The DA’s race in Fresno involved two lawyers who spent a combined eight million dollars smearing each other about “if she is elected, criminals are going to walk” (they walk already( and “If he is elected, he is going to make abortion harder for women in Fresno County” (no hospital or proper clinic can deny that)
They were well dressed, good looking, and couldn’t talk about the issue Fresnans wanted “a speedy trial” you have people who lost their family memebers to murder, and here it is six years later, and no trial yet for the perpetrator.
No, abortion and criminals walking was the “political” aspect only. They both als defended the high pay of the position because of the “hard work the office demand for fighting and defending of the citizens of Fresno”
Bullsh*t. Both were terrible, neither one had any intention of reform, or fixing. Both wanted a paycheck, both wanted to further their careers and both had more loyalty to the political parties that were endorsing them.
This happens everywhere.
In another time in the USA, both of these potential DA’s would have been “tarred and feathered” for their behavior by the public, and it would have been applauded by left and right leaning citizens. In New England, they both would have been dragged to the local “towne common” put in the stock, forced to drink tea and then would have had insults hurled at them by the local citizens for their bad behavior. Again, left and right leaning folks would have all agreed on this.
What are you going to do? Vote Republican instead of Democrat. That’s the point of this discussion. It is a demonstrably relatively effective utilitarian strategy for Christians who have voted for Trump. The best recourse you have against bad judges* is at the voting box, either directly or indirectly. I never said this was a satisfying option. Most of us were not dealt this hand of cards by choice.
You have repeatedly stated that Republican actions (including those of Trump) ultimately lack effectiveness. This is firmly established. I don’t grasp why you are repeating this. Are you addressing me or just ranting in general?
Your criticisms of the judicial system continue to go way beyond the question of whether SCOTUS decisions are important. The claim.SCOTUS decisions are not important.does not follow logically from those criticisms. Continue to rant about it if you wish, but I have nothing to add.
* As opposed to (1) expensive, time-consuming legal proceedings, (2) the rare impeachment or recall of judges, (3) resolving disputes without utilizing courts, and (4) vocal and written dissent.
I honestly don’t know why you guys bother with politics. You don’t have a meaningful choice. The media and elites ensure that the candidates you have to choose from are pre-selected according to their wishes.
Bernie Sanders .. nevva heard of her .. heh!
Here’s another old fool that got burned ..
https://pagesix.com/2020/02/10/jon-peters-says-marriage-to-pamela-anderson-went-bust-after-he-paid-debts/
“I honestly don.t know why you guys bother with politics.”
I vote to keep my taxes low. The new bonds and taxes sometimes get rejected. Example, the CA school district wants an extra $13b or so just for the primary election. Sure, the candidates are such a no-choice that I expect to vote Democrat a few times just because God said no women in authority over men. He didn’t say anything about no Democrats.
The claim.SCOTUS decisions are not important.does not follow logically from those criticisms
The decisions of the Supreme Court do not follow logically. Anything they have decided has not helped or protected my rights, in fact just the opposite. That includes the “good” judges on the top court. What they decide isn’t the law of the land……many decisions, states and cities are flat out refusing to follow.
The supreme court serves zero purpose today. It’s an outdated relic from the past, or it worked when lawyers actually studied law instead of chasing ambulances, or suing for hurt feelings or anything else viewing any lawsuit or case as a potential golden goose or fat cow for them to feast on and drink.
The law today lies in local police, what law a local or area judge decides to enforce or not enforce in his / her court. Bail is excessive (my bail for skateboarding in a no skateboarding zone was $1,200.) on top of getting it out of hock, and court fees.
Applauding Trump, or Bush I. II. for their bravery of appointing “real conservative justices” in the courts, supreme or otherwise does nothing. It makes people feel good like their vote is actually doing anything. It isn’t.
LOL. Well played, sir.
This guy has a pulse on that 15% of voters that Obama won hands down in 2008 ans 2012 and that Hillary lost in 2016.
